Model Railroading Today and Tomorrow

Discovering the new arts and sciences

The consultants like to call it a paradigm shift. I would label the change in model railroad events as the eventual evolution that occurs as improved technology and better information becomes available. The explosive growth of railroad prototype meets as manifested by the Naperville Prototype meet is a prime example. The shrinking attendance at the NMRA national convention is another. Finally, the growth of the huge train show in West Springfield MA is another.

The technology in the hobby is producing accurate railroad cars, engines and track. We run our railroads with chips in our engines (DCC). Hundreds of prototype specific books and web sites permit detailed research of a railroad, town or concept without leaving the house.

When we decide to socialize with like minded modelers, our selection of event enhances the type of modeling we do today. For the last three years, I was in attendance at three events mentioned above and posted information and photos on each.
